Pilgrims of Hope Matching Grant

The Pilgrims of Hope Matching Grant is a special, one-time matching grant opportunity available in 2026, separate from regular matching funds and other special matching programs. It is designed to encourage chapters to create and lead new fundraising events that support new organizations or groups and engage new participants.

Chapters can apply for up to $1,000 in matching funds for a qualifying Pilgrims of Hope event. This is in addition to any regular or other special matching funds available to the chapter.

Yes. Each chapter, lodge, council or volunteer team may apply the Pilgrims of Hope Matching Grant to one qualifying event during the year.

No. This grant is completely separate from regular matching funds and does not require chapters to use or commit their annual matching funds before applying. Chapters may apply for Pilgrims of Hope at any time during the year, regardless of their status with other matching programs.

• The event must be a new fundraiser (not previously held by the chapter).
• The event must support a new organization or group (not previously supported by the chapter).
• The event must engage a new group of participants (people not previously involved in the chapter’s fundraisers).
• The chapter must organize and lead the event (not simply co-sponsor or participate in another group’s event).

Chapters are encouraged to think creatively. Examples include hosting a Family Feud game night to attract families, a baked potato bar, or a puzzle contest. Think of other non-profit organizations in your area—food shelves, shelters, pro-life organizations. You could also support a new group within a parish—if you've never supported the senior ministry or the men's group. Often, connecting with a new organization or group will open up doors to new volunteers to engage. The key is that the event, organization, and participant group must all be new to the chapter.

Applications are not submitted through the usual chapter reporting systems (Isidore, Fraternal Data System, Chapter Web). Chapters must use the designated application link provided on their brand’s website. Direct links will be made available on each volunteer landing page for easy access.

Yes. Even though the application is not through the regular system, staff will ensure the event is entered into the chapter’s activity records so it counts toward annual reporting and recognition. Chapters do not need to enter the event twice.

Chapters can refer to the step-by-step guides (being developed) and project idea lists provided in recent blogs and communications. Staff is also available to clarify requirements and help brainstorm ideas.

Some chapters have confused Pilgrims of Hope with other grant programs. It is important to note that this is a matching grant (not a service project grant), and funds are provided after the event and matching criteria are met.

Chapters should reach out to their usual member engagement or chapter support contacts for guidance, or refer to the marketing communications and FAQ documents as they become available.
